Habitat: The Gray-headed chachalaca can be found in second-growth woodland, forest borders and shrubby clearings. Distribution: This species has been reported from Honduras to extreme northwestern Colombia. Natural History Notes: This bird is fairly social and is usually found in groups of up to 12 birds. It usually lives in trees but will go down on the ground to feed and to satisfy its curiosity. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). This is a resident species. Characteristics: This species has a total length between 19 inches and 21 inches (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This bird has an elongated shape with a fairly small head, a long neck and a long tail. The plumage is mostly brownish-gray. We can see a patch of red skin on the throat. Then, the head and the the neck are gray and the gray coloration becomes more white toward the belly. The primaries have a chestnut coloration and the tail has beige tip.
