Adult: Species description based on Savage (1968). Small frog. Males to 24.5 mm, females to 34 mm. Dorsal: The dorsal surface is brown, with a pair of lighter dorsolateral stripes running from the head back to the groin. Ventral: The throat is white mottled with brown, mottling may extends onto the belly, which is mostly pale white. Concealed surfaces: Lateral surface has a broad black stripe, the latter portion of which is interrupted by a narrower white stripe extending from the groin but not reaching the light dorso-lateral stripes. The posterior surface of the thigh is uniformly brown infused with grey, while the upper part of the thigh is dark, sometimes with obscure, dark bars. Extremities: Colostethus latinasus has almost no webbing on the feet (Savage 1968, Grant 2004). The third finger of males is not swollen in this species. Tadpole: Tadpoles are brown with some darker brown markings on the tail (Savage 1968). A drawing of the tadpole and mouthparts of C. latinasus can be found in Savage (1968). Habitat: Lower montane forest between 1100 and 1440 m elevation. Ecology: Colostethus latinasus is generally found in montane cloudforest, farther from streams than other Colostethus (e.g. C. inguinalis and C. panamensis, Grant et al 2004).
