Habitat: In seagrass beds and reef areas where wave action is moderate and fish grazing is minimal. Distribution: Florida, Bahamas, Greater Antilles, Lesser Antilles, Southern Caribbean, Western Caribbean. Characteristics: Yellow-brown thallus often large and bushy (Image 1). Branching alternate with spur-like branchlets. Apices pointed when mature with single apical cell. A single layer of rectangular medullary cells surrounded by a single layer of small cortical cells (Image 2). Surfaces hairs scattered and in tufts.
