Habitat: Demersal; marine; most common in clear seagrass beds. Distribution: Crawl Key and Bastimentos Island Natural History Notes: Mobile invertebrate feeder and a protogynous hermaphrodite. Depth: 1 - 15m Characteristics: Terminal phase: Body is a range of shades from green to purple-brown with orange blotches or bands. Also has a purple-red 'v' in the tail. Initial and juvenile phases: Body surface is shades of green to yellow. All phases can darken or pale quickly and can display or conceal a black mark between the eye and the edge of the gill cover.
