Habitat: Marine, reef-associated. Inhabits secluded areas of the reef, often under ledges or near the entrances to small caves. Natural History Notes: Secretive and usually solitary. Bottom-dwelling, feeds in open at night on crabs, shrimps, and polychaetes. Depth: 3 - 30m Characteristics: First dorsal fin extremely long. Pale spots on second dorsal and caudal fins. White head with two brown bars, one through the eye, the other more posterior and more diagonal, extending across chest to pelvics. Body white with a broad dark brown band beginning on front of first dorsal fin, curving across nape, above pectoral fin, and running to mid-base of caudal fin. Juveniles : black spot on nose.
