Habitat: Lowland evergreen and deciduous forests, usually below 1500 m. Distribution: Southern Mexico through Central America to Peru , Bolivia, Amazonian Brazil, Trinidad. Natural History Notes: Guild 8: Highly Cluttered Space/Gleaning Frugivores (Kalko, et al., 1996). Roosts singly or in small groups in caves, culverts, hollow trees, under foliage, and in buildings. Diet includes small fruits, especially figs, often taken from the canopy of the forest, and insects. Reproduction bimodally polyestric, synchronized with periods of most food availability. Characteristics: Medium size. Forearm 37-41mm, Mb 11-21gms. Dorsal pelage brownish to reddish, ventral pelage paler. White dorsal stripe from top of head to rump. Four distinct white or cream facial stripes, upper stripe more distinct than lower. Edge of ears and nose leaf white or cream colored. Tail membrane V-shaped, fringed with stiff white hairs, tail absent. Angular row of warts on lower lip. Upper incisors unequal in size.
