Habitat: Turbulent sites, generally seaward of the reef crest, especially in the spur-and-groove zone. Distribution: Caribbean Natural History Notes: This species is rarely found in groups of more than a few individuals. Sometimes found under slabs of coral rubble on clean, coarse sand. Depth: 1-14 m Characteristics: Individuals reach 23 mm in disk diameter, with arms 90 mm long. The arms are relatively thick, tapering distally and ending in a blunt, flattened tip. The disk and arms are dissimilarly colored. The disk is generally red or brown. The arms are contrasting brown, pinkish, gray, or green with dusky to dark bands. Small individuals are relatively brighter and more contrasting in coloration.
