Bocas Species Database Distribution: The new species was reported from the region of Bocas del Toro. Natural History Notes: The species was named in honor of Dr. Rachel Collin, who organized the Bocas Marine Taxonomy Workshop where the species was discovered. Characteristics: The specimens of this new species have an average trunk length of 236 µm and a standard width of 47 µm. Two large red eyespots can be distinguished. There is a presence of middorsal spines on segments 6-9 that slightly increase in length posteriorly. We can distinguish ventrolateral tubules on segment 4, lateroventral tubules on segment 7 and laterodorsal tubules on segment 12. Sensory spots are present and rounded like the spots that are commonly present on species from the genus Echinoderes. This new species can be distinguished by its unique spine formula, with the presence of middorsal spines on segments 6 to 9, but not on segment 10. Notes: Holotype: Adult female; Allotype: Adult male |
