Habitat: Colonies are common on the underside of rocks and on algae in the intertidal and in shallow, protected water. Characteristics: Maximum reported size: 16 mm. The shell is orange to dark brown and covered with white spots which occasionally merge into larger patches. The rounded, yellow-brown operculum is tiny and translucent and easily overlooked. The 1.5-whorled protoconch is cylindrical and often worn down to a rounded apex. The shell has a distinctive long, pear-shaped body whorl and narrow aperture. The surface is highly polished and slippery. Inside the outer lip are six or seven weak teeth. Near the base of the columella are two small ridges.
