Bocas Species Database Habitat: This Tyrannulet species can be commonly found in canopy and forest borders, second-growth woodland and adjacent clearings in the lowlands and foothills. Distribution: This species has been reported from southern Mexico to northwestern Colombia. Natural History Notes: The Paltry Tyrannulet will usually forage high in trees in dense foliage, so you might have a hard time to see it. Its call is composed og a semi-whistled like "peeayik" or "pee-yip". It eats mainly mistletoe, but also berries and small insects, which are all taken in flight. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). It is a resident species. Characteristics: This species has a total length of 10.1 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This bird has a short black bill and a pale iris. The cap on top of the head is dark gray and the stripe above the eye is white. This contrasts with the olive colored back. Then, the wings are olive with the edges yellow and the wings lack wing-bars. The plumage below is pale gray, with some olive-yellow tones on the sides of the body. |
