Habitat: We can observe this species on beaches, mudflats, grassy areas and tidal flats. Distribution: This species breeds in high arctic. It will migrate south to southern United States, Middle and South America and in Europe and Africa. Natural History Notes: On order to feed, the species will first stand still, without any movement, and will suddenly run for a few feet and then pick up the food from the surface. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: The total length of this species varies between 27.94 cm and 33.02 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). The beak is small, stout and of a black coloration. The plumage varies with breeding periods. During the nonbreeding period, this bird has a light gray to brown above part, with whitish superciliary. The below part is white with dark gray spots on the breast. The breeding plumage is a little different, with the upperparts brilliant white with black spots and we can distinguish a white forecrown that extend toward the back as a white band, around the sides of the head to the sides of the breast. Another difference is that the face and the underparts are black.
