Habitat: The Speckled mourner will favor humid forests and second-growth woodland in the lowlands. Distribution: This species has been reported from southeastern Mexico to northwestern Ecuador. Natural History Notes: This species is usually found alone, quietly perched on a middle level tree branch. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: This species has a total length of 8 inches (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This bird has a characteristic rufous-brown plumage, with the breast feathers more dark gray. The wing-coverts are dark gray and the feathers have a rufous tip.
