Habitat: The Scaled antipitta will be mostly found in forests and foothills in the highlands. Distribution: This species has been reported from central Mexico to extreme northern Brazil and Bolivia. Natural History Notes: This species has been reported only from the highlands of east and west of Panama. This bird is mostly terrestrial and will be perched on a fallen tree and will rarely fly. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: This species has a total length of 7 inches (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This bird has fairly long legs compared to the short tail. There is the presence of a brown-gray crown, but the rest of the above is olive brown colored. The common name comes from the feathers on the upperparts that all have their edges tipped black, which gives an overall scale appearance. The part below is rufous with some black spots on the throat and the upper chest.
