Habitat: Can be found in forest borders, second-growth woodland and clearings. The species is usually found close to the ground but can also be found a little higher, feeding on flowering trees. Distribution: This species has been reported from Central Panama to western Ecuador. Natural History Notes: Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC) Characteristics: This species has a total length of 8.26 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). The beak is small (1.27 cm) and straight. The male has a shining green coloration above and underparts are dark blue turning to violet. The throat is bright green and the tail is blue-black and has a rounded shape. The female also has the above part of the body bright green, but the below part is pale gray, becoming whitish on the belly. The sides and the chest show green spots. The tail is rounded like that of the male but the outer feathers are tipped grayish.
