Habitat: This bird will be commonly found in undergrowth of forest and second-growth woodland habitats in the lowlands. Distribution: This species has been reported from Honduras to western Ecuador. Natural History Notes: The Song Wren is usually seen in pairs or in small groups. Its common name comes from the beautiful songs it can produce. The songs consist of harsh notes like "churr" that are mixed with guttural notes and musical whistles or pitches. Sometimes, some songs will have a series of 3 whistles that can leap or fall a full octave! Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). It is a resident species. Characteristics: This species has a total length of 12.7 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This bird has a rather long and pointed black bill. The plumage is mostly brown with a rufous-chestnut coloration on the sides of the head, on the neck, on the throat and on the chest. We can also distinguish the pale blue bare skin located around the eyes. Then, the wings and the tail are striped black. The female looks similar but has some gray on the lower belly.
