Polyp: Unknown. Medusa: Umbrella slightly flatter than a hemisphaere. Four simple radial canals; no centripetal canals. Tentacles of two types, arranged in two series: one (~ 20 tentacles) issuing from exumbrella above bell margin, with terminal adhesive disks and about 8 cnidocyst rings each; second series (~ 50-60 tentacles) arising from bell margin, without terminal adhesive disks, with 25-30 nematocyst rings. Gonads on radial canals. Statocysts numerous. Ecology and Distribution: Uncommon, recorded only in the Caribbean Sea and adjacent waters. In Bocas del Toro collected in a plankton tow near the docks of the Bocas del Toro Research Station - Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute at night. Similar taxa: Vallentinia gabriellae.
