Polyp: Colonies erect. Hydrocladia regularly alternate, every three hydrothecae; one basal athecate internode separated from the apophyses by transversal node, and from the following hydrothecate internode by an oblique node. Hydrothecal pairs opposite, adnate frontally, and adnate to stem from 1/2 to 3/4. Hydrothecae tumid, turned outwards, with a horseshoe-shaped thickening at the abcauline wall; aperture with two large pointed lateral teeth and a smaller median adcauline tooth; operculum with two valves. Intrathecal teeth absent. Hydranth with abcauline diverticulum. Reproduction: Gonothecae slightly compressed, provided with circular ribs and two apical cusps. Reproduction by short-lived medusoid. Ecology and Distribution: Circumglobal species. Known in Bocas del Toro from Hospital Point, Bocas del Drago, Cayo Zapatilla and Swans Cay. Similar taxa: Dynamena disticha, Sertularia distans. |
