Natural History Notes: Colonies of Characteristics: The shell reaches 29 mm and is distinctively colored, with yellowish nodules constrasting with dark brown interspaces. The operculum is dark brown. Elsewhere, the colors are mixed, often with the major cords yellowish and the dark brown coloring arranged both axially and spirally. The apex of the shell often becomes sharpened due to erosion. The protoconch has 1.5 whorls, and the columella has three to four folds. The axial ribs become clearly defined at the shoulder and form a row of 8 to 11 strong nodules. Strong cords below the periphery of the body whorl create small notches on the thin outer lip. Inside the white aperture are six to ten narrow lirae. Some color from the exterior usually shows through.
