Bocas Species Database Habitat: Underside of rocks intertidally or in less than 1 m. Natural History Notes: Often encrusted with marine growth. Depth: 0 - 29 m Characteristics: Maximum reported size: 15 mm. The soft parts of the animal are mostly black with white tips to the siphon and tentacles and a few white spots elsewhere. The bottom of the foot iw edged with gold, and some similar color can be seen towards the end of the tentacles. The shell is mostly black, fading to shades of brown, and the operculum is black with a yellowish border. The protoconch has about 1.75 whorls. The rounded whorls are brown with a lighter spiral band at the center. The apex is usually eroded or covered with marine growth. The solid, diamond-shaped shell has a narrow, constricted aperture half the length of the shell. A row of large white nodules immediately above the suture and at the periphery of the body whorl is crossed by two or three spiral cords. The inside of the outer lip has about six strong white teeth, and the columella is brown-stained and has several narrow ridges and smaller swellings. |
