Habitat: The Buffy tuftedcheek can be found in montane forests. It is found only in the western moutains of Panama. Distribution: This species has been reported from Costa Rica and western Panama. Natural History Notes: The Buffy Tuftedcheek forages actively among mosses, vines, bromeliads and other epiphytes for insects, spiders, and even small amphibians. It will be usually found well above the ground and in groups of different bird species. This species was named after the American amateur ornithologist, George Newbold Lawrence. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: This species has a total length of 20.3 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This bird is brown on the above, with a more rufous coloration on the rump and the tail. The top og the head is dark gray with beige spots and the wings are mostly black with the edges of the wing-coverts beige colored. This bird is characterized by the beige colored throat that extend toward the sides of the neck, into a tuft manner. Finally, the part below is buff with gray spots on the chest.
