Habitat: This Antwren species can be commonly found in lower growth of humid forest and second-growth woodland habitats in foothills and lower highlands. Distribution: This species has been reported from southern Mexico to northern Venezuela and southern Peru. Natural History Notes: The Slaty Antwren can be found usually in pairs, mixed with other bird species. It feeds mostly on insects and spiders caught in the foliage. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: This species has a total length of 3.75 inches (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). As the common name says it, the male has a plumage slaty colored with a black throat and a black chest. Also, the wing-coverts and the tail are tipped white. The female has an olive brown coloration above but the sides of the head and the throat are beige. The underparts are pale orange.
