Habitat: Reef-associated, marine. Found mainly in seagrass beds in the Caribbean region. Appear to be more abundant along the continental coaslines and around large islands than it is around smaller and more offshore islands. Depth range - 80 m. Natural History Notes: Commonest and most widespread of the trunkfish species found in the West Atlantic. Feeds on sponges, tunicates, colonial sea anemones, hermit crabs and other crustaceans, gorgonians and marine plants. Change color to blend with background. Oviparous. Found in the stomach of a lemon shark. Characteristics: Spines jutting forward in front of the eyes. Blue-green to yellowish with black, black with a bluish cast or blue irregulars markings. Can be well marked, show almost no markins or all intermediate variations.
