Habitat: Lowland tropical forests, occasionally to higher elevations Distribution: Southern Mexico to the Guianas, Trinidad, south to Bolivia and Brazil. Natural History Notes: An aerial insectivore. Roosts in buildings, caves (or near cave entrances), crevices, hollow trees, between tree buttresses, under bridges, etc. Colony size about 10-12 individuals. Males defend harems. There appears to be an extended breeding season with parturition occurring during the rainy months and development of young during the drier months. Characteristics: Dorsal pelage blackish with two longitudinal wavy stripes (see bottom photo), underparts grayish brown, wing membrane attached to tibia, forearm greater than 43 mm., glandular sac in antebrachial membrane (most prominent in males), tail perforates upper surface of interfemoral membrane, no noseleaf. Notes: Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC).
