Habitat: Present in moderately shallow water Distribution: This species has been reported from North Carolina to the West Indies and Brazil. Natural History Notes: This clam species possesses a strong foot that allows it to leap quite efficiently. Characteristics: Laevicardium laevigatum measures between 1 and 2 inches long, and is usually higher than long. The shell is thin, smooth and slightly inflated, and we can see that the anterior end is more curved than the posterior end. We can distinguish 60 fine ribs. The color pattern consists of a creamy-white background with some bands or dots either brown-orange colored or more purple colored.
