Bocas Species Database Habitat: This species prefers soft bottoms, although it is also found in rocky bottoms and among live corals. Distribution: This species has been reported throughout the West Indies and the Western Atlantic Ocean. Depth: 0-51 m Characteristics: This species has a smooth caparace with several black teeth, 6 on the latroventral portion and 6 more on the frontal region. The chela is stout, with the presence of 5 dark spines on the posterior margin. It has 6 abdominal somites (segments), with the sixth one as long as broad, and the telson has a triangular shape. This species can be differentiated by the presence of a characteristic spine on the posterior margin border of the carpus of the fifth leg. The coloration consists of a dark green background with some light purple on the inner surface of the palm and some dark purple on some segments of the walking legs. The carapace has a ligther green coloration with some white patches. |
