Bocas Species Database Habitat: The species lives in fine flocculent sand on top of black anoxic sand at a water depth of 0.5 meters. Distribution: This news species has been found near Almirante, in the region of Bocas del Toro, Panama. Natural History Notes: This new species was named in honor of Dr. Rachel Collin from the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute for her important contribution to material collection in the region of Bocas del Toro by organizing various workshops. Characteristics: The specimens collected measure around 480µm in length and 150µm of width. The body is rounded at both anterior and posterior ends and does not show a visible color pattern under transmitted light. It has a ciliated epidermis and some rhabdoids glands are visible. The mouth is positioned ventrally on the middle of the body. The reproductive system shows a presence of paired ovaries ventrally located and paired testes positioned laterally to the ovaries. A common gonopore is present. |
