Habitat: Reef habitat, seagrass beds, especially in sand areas near the coral sites where water is silty (>3 m deep). Distribution: Caribbean wide. Characteristics: Ramose, branching species similar in growth pattern to the hard coral Acropora cervicornis. Branches 1-2 cm in diameter, and more than 20 cm high. Hard and fragile in consistency. Smooth surface, with oscules (2-5 mm) regularly distributed. Notes: Previously reported and identified by M.C. Diaz as Xestospongia subtriangularis.
