Habitat: This Kingbird species will be a winter resident that favors residential areas and generally semiopen areas in the lowlands. Distribution: This species is migratory. It breeds in coastal southeastern United States, the West Indies and Venezuela. Then, it winters in southern West Indies, Panama and northern South America, with a few birds reported from Costa Rica and Nicaragua. Natural History Notes: The Gray Kingbird can be easily observed perched on fences or telephone wires along the road. Its call consists ofa rolling sound coming from the throat, like "pe-cheer-ry". This bird will occasionally sallying out to feed on insects, which is the main constituent of its diet. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: The total length of this species varies between 23 cm and 24 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This bird has a thick black bill with a large head that gives it a characteristic bull-headed appearance. THe plumage is gray above with dark gray ear-coverts and a masked orange crown on top of the head. Then, the wings and the tail are brown, with the tail having a slightly forked shape. The part below is all white, with some fine gray tones on the chest.
