Habitat: This Tanager can be commonly found in gardens, shrubby clearings, second-growth woodland and forest borders habitats. Distribution: This species has been reported from eastern Mexico to the Guianas, Brazil, and northern Bolivia. Natural History Notes: The Blue-gray Tanager is a common bird of Panama. It is very active and forages from tree to tree for fruits and insects. Its call will also be familiar since this bird has a tendency to be fairly noisy. Its call consists of a series of squeaky notes like "tseee" and "tsuup", but without any apparent pattern. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). It is a resident species. Characteristics: This species has a total length of 16.5 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This bird has a mostly pale grayish-blue plumage that will contrast with the dark-blue coloration on the back. Also, the wing-coverts are darker blue and the wings are edged bright blue. The tail feathers are also bright blue colored. The birds reported from Bocas del Toro, caesita, have an overall darker plumage especially on the below part of the body.
