Habitat: During winter, this species is fairly common in forest borders and woodland, in the lowlands and foothills. Distribution: This bird is migratory. It breeds in eastern North America and migrates south from Guatemala to Panama and ocasionally to Colombia and Venezuela. Natural History Notes: THe Chestnut-sided warbler is usually found foraging with other warbler species. As the other warblers, this species is insectivore and will feed of course on insects, but also on berries during winter. This species likes to cock its tail at a characteristic angle and also droop their wings. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). It is a latitudinal migratory species. Characteristics: The total length of this species varies between 4.25 inches and 4.75 inches (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). In Panama, you will see this species with its nonbreeding plumage. This plumage consists of yellowish olive-green coloration on the above with a grayer coloration on the head and with a white ring around the eye. The wings are dark gray and show two yellow wing-bars. Then, the sides of the head and most of the underparts are gray-white. The common name of this species comes from the chestnut patches present on the sides of the body.
