Habitat: This Parrot species can be commonly found in humid forests and forest borders in the lowlands and foothills. Distribution: This species has been reported from southern Mexico to northwestern Colombia. Natural History Notes: The Brown-hooded Parrot is usually found in small groups. Its call is fairly high and consists of notes like "check-check" or "cheek-cheek". It feeds on fruits and seeds. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). It is a resident species. Characteristics: The total length of this species varies between 20.3 cm and 23 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This bird as a chunky appearance with its short tail and is characterized by the head and the throat dark gray-brown colored with a browner coloration on the crown. There is a red patch on the ear-coverts. The plumage is mostly green, with a red collar on the foreneck and a brown patch on the breast. The flight feathers are dark blue.
