Habitat: In Bocas the species is on seagrass beds (1-3 m deep). The species is reported from 50-100 m deep. Distribution: Colombia, Florida, Cuba, and Bocas del Toro, Panamá. Natural History Notes: Lives completely buried within sediment, connecting with the open water above through tubular siphons which draw the water that is passed through the sponge's body. Characteristics: Massive globular buried under the sand with projecting cylindrical fistules that have smooth ends, or pagoda-shaped projections (2-4 cm wide, 1 mm thick). Dirty-white to cream in color.
