Habitat: This Wood-Wren species is fairly common in dense undergrowth of montane forests and forest borders, coffee plantations and overgrown clearings habitats, in highlands. Distribution: This species has been reported from Mexico to northern Venezuela and northern Bolivia. Natural History Notes: Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: This species has a total length of 11.4 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This bird is fairly short and has a small black bill and a short tail. The plumage is rufous brown above with some black on the crown, especially on the sides of the crown. The wings and the tail show some black stripes. We can see a white stripe above the eye and also some black and white stripes on the sides of the head and along the neck. Then, the underparts are gray and the flanks and the belly are more rufous brown. The birds reported from Bocas del Toro have a whitish throat with many dark gray stripes.
