Habitat: Rare on seagrass beds, common on reefs (>4 m deep). Distribution: Caribbean wide. Natural History Notes: This sponge has been studied for its biochemical properties but little is reported about its ecology. Depth: 40-75ft Characteristics: Massive, encrusting, to lobate (2-10 cm thick). Brown-yellowish to orange externally, lighter internally. Surface smooth or punctuated, sometimes rugose. Oscules with light membranes (0.2-1 cm in diameter), sometimes on chimney-like projections (1-2 cm high). Dense and compressible.
