Habitat: This species can be found around large bodies of fresh water. Distribution: This species is mostly seen in Panama and in northern Mexico and Ecuador. Natural History Notes: It is usually seen flying alone over cities. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: The total length of this species varies between 38 cm and 51 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This species has long pointed wings and tail. The plumage is mostly gray above with a blacker coloration on the head and we can distinguish large black stripes along the throat. The part below is whitish with an irregular pattern of grayish on the breast and the belly. The tail shows stripes of gray and black.
