Habitat: This species can be found in open or semiopen and in coastal areas, most commonly in the lowlands. Distribution: This species breeds in northern Eurasia and northern North America. The birds from North America will migrate south to Venezuela and northern Peru and in the West Indies. Natural History Notes: Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: The total length of this species varies between 25 cm and 33 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This species shows sexual dimorphism. The male has a dark blue-gray plumae on the above with a rusty red coloration on the sides of the head. The part below if cream to white with dark brown stripes. The tail is black and shows three large white bands and a white tip. The female and the immature bird looks similar but have a browner plumage on the above.
