Habitat: This species can be found in mangroves, mudflats and occasionally in fresh water marshes. Distribution: This species was reported from southwestern United States and Mexico to northwestern Peru and Venezuela and the Greater Antilles. Natural History Notes: This species is usually found in groups. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: The total length of this species varies between 23 inches and 25 inches (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This species has a brilliant red face with a red decurved bill. The legs are pink. Then, the plumage is mostly white with black wing-tips. The immature bird has a slightly different bill coloration, with the bill pinkish and the tip black. Also, its plumage coloration is more brownish except for the white rump and belly.
