Habitat: This Elaenia species is commonly found in shrubby areas and open fields and pastures in the lowlands and foothills. Distribution: This species has been reported from Costa Rica to northern Bolivia and southern Brazil. Natural History Notes: The Yellow-bellied Elaenia is a noisy and fairly bird that is easy to observe. Its diet consists of berries and insects. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). It is a resident species. Characteristics: The total length of this species varies between 13.3 cm and 14 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This bird has hooked bill with a pinkish lower mandible and a black tip. A small crest can be distinguished that is sometimes colored white on the center. The plumage is mostly olive gray above with a fine white ring around the eyeand two white wing-bars. The throat is gray with some yellow tones, becoming more olive colored on the chest, the sides of the body and the flanks. The center of the breast and the belly are more olive-yellowish.
