Polyp: Colonies erect. Hydrorhiza creeping, giving rise to unbranched cormoids usually identified as hydrocladia and most often unbranched. Basal part of hydrocladia divided into variable number of segments (each with a variable number of nematothecae). Distal part of hydrocladia heteromerously segmented by alternating oblique and transverse nodes. Hydrothecae cup shaped, with even rim. Four nematothecae surrounding each hydrotheca: one median inferior, one superior pair of laterals situated on pedicels, and one axillar. Intersegments normally with two median nematothecae. Nematothecae two chambered. Reproduction: Gonophores as sporosacs. Gonothecae developing directly under hydrotheca, pear-shaped, with two large nematothecae at base. Ecology and Distribution: Circumglobal species in temperate and tropical areas. In Bocas del Toro it was collected from Punta Hospital and Bastimento (vicinities of Casa Verde).
