Habitat: The Ruddy ground-dove is fairly common in urban areas, shrubby areas and clearings. Distribution: This species has been reported from Mexico to Bolivia, northern Argentina and Uruguay. Natural History Notes: This species is one of the most abundant birds present in open areas in Panama. They feed mainly on seeds. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). It is a resident species. Characteristics: The total length of this species varies between 6 inches and 7 inches (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). The male has an interesting contrast pattern of coloration with a gray head and the rest of the body brown. The wings have some black spots and the primaries and secondaries have a more rufous coloration. The female have a paler brown coloration but the black still has the dark brown coloration.
