Habitat: This Thrush species favors lower growth of forest and second-growth woodland in the highlands. Distribution: This species is migratory. It breeds in North America and migrate south form Mexico to northern Argentina. Natural History Notes: Swainson's Thrush is a shy bird that will be hard to observe because it likes to hide in dense vegetation. They forage on the forest floor but also in trees. It diet consists mainly of insects, fruits and berries. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: This species has a total length of 18 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This bird has a olive brown coloration above with a beige-brown coloration on the cheeks and a beige ring around the eye and the supraloral area. The part below is white and the throat, as well as the chest, are beige with pale spots of gray. The most common race present in Panama is the swainsoni bird, but other races, such as almae and oedicus, have been observed in Panama.
