Habitat: This Amazon species can be commonly found in forests and humid gallery woodlands, in the lowlands and foothills. Distribution: This species has been reported from eastern Mexico to western Venezuela and western Ecuador. Natural History Notes: The Red-lored Amazon is usually found in pairs and can be mostly observed early in the morning and late in the afternoon. The characteristic shallow stiff wing-strokes that this species shows while flying helps to distinguish it even if many parrot species are seen in the air. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). It is a resident species. Characteristics: This beautiful parrot has a bicolored bill, with a yellow horn on the above and a dark gray coloration above. Around the eye, the bare skin area is white. Also, the forehead and the lores are bright red colored. Otherwise, the plumage of this bird is mostly green, except for the crown and the nape feathers that are lavender purple. The plumage is also more yellow-green on the face. We can distinguish a red speculum on the secondaries. Then, the tail has the tip yellow-green colored and some red at the base.
