Habitat: Present in sandy bottoms. Distribution: This species has been reported from New Jersey to the West Indies and Brazil. Characteristics: This clam has a very particular shell, with bladelike concentric ridges superimposed on strong radial ribs and giving the shell its characteristic cancellate (crisscrossed) appearance, hence the common name. In the interior, we can often distinguish purple zigzags.
