Adult: Species description based on Ibanez and Crawford (2004). A small dirt frog. Dorsal: The dorsal surface is dark purplish or reddish brown, depending on the specimen. The dorsal surface is smooth. Ventral: The ventral surface is translucent white, so that the heart, liver and intestines are indistinctly visible. The undersurfaces of the arms and legs have a purplish cast. The ventral surface is granular, except for the throat, which is smooth. Concealed surfaces: There are no distinct markings on the rear of the thighs or in the groin in this species. Eye: The eye is dark brown, but has a purplish cast.
Habitat: Premontane and montane rain forest (1250-1550 m). Ecology: The three specimens of this species were all found at night on low vegetation or tree trunks (Ibanez and Crawford 2004). Type locality: along the headwaters of the Cana River, approximately 100 m below the Pirre Tent Camp run by Ancon Expeditions at Cana, Darién National Park, Darién Province, Panama, 1250 m elevation, 07° 45′ 48.6″ N, 77° 43′ 19.8″ W
