Adult: Species description based on Ibanez et al (1999). A medium-sized foamfrog (males to 53 mm, females to 56 mm). Males have a heavily pigmented dark grey or blackish throat. Dorsal: The dorsal surface is brown with darker spots outlined in black. Six folds are present on the dorsum, running laterally from the head to the rear. The inner folds are generally lighter than the dorsum. The occasional individual has a light middorsal stripe. Ventral: The ventral surface is white, except for the throat of males. Concealed surfaces: A dark line in present along the rear surface of the thigh, over dark and light brown mottling. Eye: The iris is golden bronze. Extremities: The hands and feet are unwebbed.
Habitat: Savannah to 1700 m. Call: A short, whistly rising note (Ibanez et al 1999). Males have a pair of vocal sacs that extend out from the sides (Ibanez et al 1999). Type locality: Surinam
