Habitat: Marine. Reef-associated. Large shoals can often be seen lying over rocky or coral reefs during daylight hours, often under ledges or close to elkhorn coral. Spread out over the flats to feed at night. Natural History Notes: Adults feed on a wide variety of benthic invertebrates. Youngs, which are often found in seagrass beds, feed primarily on the animals of the plankton within a few feets of the bottom. Depth: 0 - 60m Characteristics: Bluish silver body with yellow stripes, those above lateral line horizontal and those below decidedly oblique. Enlarged scales below the lateral line. Yellow fins.
