Habitat: On mangrove habitats,and under coral rubble Distribution: Caribbean, Florida, North Carolina, Georgia, Canary Islands. Characteristics: Shape : cushion shaped (1-3 cm thick) to ramose sponge composed of tubes, lobes, or solid branches (0.4-1.5 cm thick), less than 15 cm long. Color : externally bright pink, violet to brownish on the top face and beige (or lighter) on shaded side. Lighter to tan internally. Consistency : very soft, fragile, and limp. Easily torn. Surface : soft with a velvet aspect (microhispid under the scope) Apertures : oscules (2-5 mm in diameter) disperse on the branches or cushions, sometimes on top of tubes . Notes: Not much information is published about the ecology of this sponge species.
