Habitat: This species can be found in remote forests in lowlands and foothills. Distribution: This species has been reported from Mexico to northern Venezuela and western Ecuador. Its population has been decreasing over the years due to deforestation and strong hunting pressure. Natural History Notes: The Crested guan usually lives in trees and will walk from branch to branch, alone or in pairs. The substantial twig nest is built in a tree or stump and lined with leaves. The female lays two or three large rough-shelled white eggs and incubates them alone. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: This species has a total length between 34 inches and 35 inches (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This large bird has an elongated shape, with a long neck and tail. The plumage is mostly olive with a crest and a characteristic bare red throat. The chest and the breast have light white stripes. The tail and the lower part of the back have a more chestnut coloration.
