Habitat: Reef-associated; marine. Distribution: Carenero cay Natural History Notes: Non Territorial herbivore; dermsal feeder. Forms large feeding schools. Juvenile often associate with Thalassia sea grass. Sleeps in a mucus cocoon. Depth: 2 - 25m Characteristics: Terminal phase: Two horizontal blue green stripes pass from the snout to the lower body, between which lies a yellow/orange stripe fading towards the rear. A further yellow/orange/pink stripe extends along the length of the dorsal fin. Juvenile phase: Displays three black stripes, two white stripes and a white ventral area, and often also silver stripes. Dark tail border. Initial phase: From the juvenile phase, stripes fade and brown. Fins can turn yellow.
