Habitat: Marine. Reefs, areas of eroded limestone studded with small corals, mixed sand and rock, rocky tide pools and turtle-grass beds. Particularly characteristic of reef areas densely populated with sea-fans, whips and stinging coral. Depth range 1 - 30 m. Natural History Notes: Feeds on seagrasses, sponges, crabs and other crustaceans, mollusks, polychaete worms, sea urchins, starfishes, hydroids and algae. Characteristics: Blue lines run lengthwise on the caudal peduncle, margining the pale central region both above and below. Narrow blue parallel bars on the lower half of the peduncle. Upper and lower edges of caudal peduncle and fin black. Dark olive brown upper body, white to yellowish gold below with numerous blue dots. Each nostril a single aperture surrounded by a flesh rim.
